Bio-diesel is a domestic,
renewable fuel for diesel engines derived from fats and oils such
as soybeans and animal fats.
-
Bio-diesel can be used
in any concentration with petroleum – based diesel fuel
in existing diesel engines with little or no modification.
-
Bio-diesel is not raw
vegetable oil!
-
Bio-diesel must be produced
by a chemical process that removes glycerin from the oil.

Bio-diesel blend, n. – a blend of bio-diesel fuel meeting ASTM
D 6751 with petroleum-based diesel fuel designated BXX, where XX
is the volume percent of bio-diesel.
- Fuel quality is of the utmost concern and
importance to the bio-diesel industry.
- ASTM specifications set the “gold
standard” for materials, fuels, safety, new product
testing, etc.
- ASTM D 6751 is the specification for bio-diesel
fuels irrespective of the feedstock source and/or processing method.
- Standard ensures that bio-diesel has the fuel
properties for safe operation in a compression ignition engine
and ensures that poor processing has not contaminated the fuel
with other products that would create engine damage.
